Occasionally, she would let me take a spin on the sewing machine sewing together scraps of fabric for fun as she designed and created stuffed animals for us to snuggle and play with. When we would go to visit my grandparents, I would watch grandma stitching together beautiful hand-pieced quilts; I even got one of those treasures when I graduated from high school.
