Crocheting gives me a reason and opportunity to slow down and just be.
Allows me to feel a sense of connection to at least 5 generations of my bloodline.
Stitch by stitch. Small visible wins release dopamine, which supports calm motivation rather than stress-driven urgency.
Feeling the yarn move rhythmically between each finger, noticing its texture, tension, and warmth pulls my attention into my body and the present moment. It is very grounding and tactile.
Crocheting always puts me in a “soft focus” state.
Promotes Alpha waves and theta waves
Crocheting sits between boredom and challenge. Your mind gets engaged just enough to stop anxious thoughts, but not so much that it feels demanding. This is close to a light flow or meditative state.
That’s not just “in your head.” It’s a whole-body state reducing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline
This is why your thoughts often feel slower, kinder, and clearer while crocheting.
