How I Became a Quilt Designer!
It’s amazing how some of our stories are so similar, while others are completely different!
Back in 2009, I was really into blogging and joining all sorts of fun quilting challenges. I've always loved a good challenge, especially when it involves putting my own spin on a pattern! One of my favorite bloggers challenged us to create a Christmas design using the AccuQuilt GO! fabric cutter, which my hubby had given me for Christmas. I started dreaming up a sweet little snowman dancing in the snow and went shopping for the perfect dies. Along the way, I found a beautiful set of paisley dies that I just couldn't resist!
Well, one morning, while I was supposed to be working on my snowman, my mind kept wandering back to those paisley shapes. So I grabbed some colored paper, cut out a bunch of shapes, and started playing. And wouldn't you know it, those paisleys turned into the cutest little Christmas tree! So much for my dancing snowman! Haha! I named my little creation Feathered Christmas and shared it on my blog. Just a couple of days later, Brewer, a quilting distributor with exclusive rights to the dies I'd used, contacted me. They loved my little tree and wanted to know if I'd write a pattern for them to distribute. Me? Write a quilt pattern? Of course I said YES! After all, it was another fun challenge!
Feathered Christmas turned out to be a wonderful success, and one thing led to another, opening doors to opportunities I'd never dreamed of, including fabric design, teaching, and so much more!
It's been quite a ride, and I absolutely love what I do. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of this wonderful creative world and to share it with so many amazing people. And to think, it all started with a handful of colored paper, some paisley shapes, and a snowman who never made it to the dance floor!
Now I'm curious… have you made Feathered Christmas? I'd absolutely love to know if you've stitched my very first design!
And have you ever started one project only to end up creating something completely different?
