Welcome to my tiny little back porch. For years this room was nothing more than a pass through and a dumping ground for all the odd things that didn’t have a home. The previous owners had built it on quickly without ever finishing it out and it was the type of space that you wanted to move through quickly. I dreamed of someday giving it a makeover, but it was not a top priority.

Last spring I came across this dry sink and started dreaming of turning what we not so affectionately called the “mud room” into a potting shed. This project was mostly about paint and a few good pieces. We installed pine boards for the floors and painted them with a checkerboard pattern, put a fresh coat of paint on the walls and moved in a few antique and vintage pieces for storage and display. Now the porch is full of cottage charm that feels welcoming.

Currently it’s still dressed for Christmas, but come spring it will be a happy little spot to pot plants and start seeds. And maybe linger for a moment while you’re passing through.
