🍂 September 1 has entered the craft room…

It may not officially be fall just yet, but around here, fall crafting season is officially OPEN. ✂️🤎

REAL FABRIC + IRON-ON 👀

You asked for the whole process—so I’m sharing the FULL tutorial right here on Facebook. 😊🧵

From fabric and a blank sweatshirt to a personalized game-day design, we’re walking through it all in under 10 minutes—including how I create the overlapping iron-on outline in Design Space and assemble both layers for one press.

This is the version I made without stitching. Next, I’m planning a longer, slower craft-along for the sewn version, with more time to work through the details together. 🏈

Save this for when you’re ready to make yours!

A quick material note: I used HeatnBond Lite Sewable and haven’t wash-tested this unstitched version yet, so I can’t promise long-term wash durability. I would recommend the HeatnBond Ultrabond or iron on adhesive for the no sew version.

Fabric Appliqué Without Sewing?! 👀

The patterned part of these letters-Not HTV—it’s regular fabric. 🏈

I backed the fabric with HeatnBond, cut the letters with my Cricut and pressed them onto the shirt. But instead of stitching around this first version, I created an iron-on offset that layers over and overlaps the fabric edges to help reinforce them while adding another layer to the design.

It’s a little fabric appliqué, a little HTV—and a completely personalized game-day shirt. 🙌

Save this idea! I’m using the traditional stitched appliqué method on the next shirt so we can compare both finishes.

You may already have the blade you need to cut bonded fabric with your Cricut. 👀

After backing my fabric with HeatnBond, I cut these appliqué letters using a regular fine-point blade—the same type of blade most Cricut users already have.

The pink bonded-fabric housing is helpful for keeping one sharp blade reserved exclusively for fabric, but you don’t have to buy an entirely new setup just to try this technique. Use a clean, sharp blade and always make a test cut first!

And just like that…personalized football shirts become a whole lot more doable. 🏈

Halloween crafting used to be one of my favorite creative seasons—and as you can see, I made a lot of it. I’m still proud of the creativity, detail and techniques that went into these projects.

But a couple of years ago, I began feeling personally convicted in my heart about celebrating Halloween. This isn’t me judging anyone else or telling another person what they should do. It’s simply something I no longer feel at peace participating in the same way.

Because Simply Recollective is rooted in faith—and because I want what I share here to reflect where I am now—I won’t be creating a full season of new Halloween projects. My previous creations are still available on my Cricut profile for anyone who originally followed me for them. (Profile ⬇️ in the comments.)

This season, I’ll be leaning into fall, pumpkins, cozy projects, creative techniques and a little more light. 🍂🤎

Yes, that was ordinary cling wrap between the wood and tissue paper. A little heat fused the layers together—and now I understand why this technique works. I’m still testing it, but the wood results surprised me.

Would you try this on wood, or stick with traditional decoupage?
