Our Story

Our building is over 120 years old, and like most downtown buildings has a wealth of history within its walls. Our store - SMITHS FLOOR STORE - is over 70 years old, created in 1947, and has had several generations walk through it's entrance doors. Over the decades so much has changed...about Joplin, about the four-states, about downtown, and about us. One thing, however, remains the same as the day the door opened to the public at 814 S Main street....commitment to service. In a time when many of us have either forgot what real 'customer service' is or have grown up in an era where it almost doesn't exist, we like to think that we are fortunate enough to have been here long enough to understand and appreciate what service (...the way it use to be...the way it should be..) means. At Smiths Floor Store, our mission is simple: Provide great service. Answer each question with the same sincerity, honesty, and knowledge that we would want for ourselves and our family. Offer true 'value' - which means the Best product for the Best price. Value means much more than a logo on a bag of generic chips. Value, despite those that have tried to redefine it as 'the cheapest version at the lowest possible price' does NOT describe any product you would find on a pallet in the middle of a warehouse - those products are just 'Cheap'! Cheap is and always will be exactly as it reads...cheap...cheap price...cheap made. Cheap is an imitation, and a poor one at that. Cheap is temporary and fails quickly. Cheap looks good in the package, but looks, cheap when unboxed. Cheap comes on pallets, is only available in 3 colors of tan, and ends up on your evening news program as part of an investigation into health issues related to toxic finishes. VALUE is what we offer. It is simply stated, 'the best possible quality at the best possible price' while ALSO being the 'best available product to meet the demands of your use.' So check around when it's time (or most likely well past time) to replace your flooring. Chances are you will find several people (and maybe even their parents, grandparents, and children) that have come to us for their carpet, hardwood, tile (or complete bathroom renovation), laminate, or our newest 'Hydroplank' (waterproof plank floors) and 'FlexTile' (tile that won't crack and isn't so cold) floors.
