Founded by Kim, a member of the Choctaw Nation and her husband Joe, residents of Kansas City, Missouri, PƲla! Candles is more than a fragrance company—it is a bridge to ancestral roots. The name PƲla (pron

ounced poo-La) translates to "joyful and festive light" in the Choctaw language, reflecting a mission to bring grounded, Native American-inspired scents into every home. Kim’s journey is deeply influenced by her upbringing as a United States Air Force child. While her father’s service—concluding as Chief Master Sergeant at Whiteman Air Force Base—took the family from California to Montana to San Antonio, her parents remained steadfast in keeping their heritage alive. They traveled across the country to attend local pow wows, ensuring the traditions of their ancestors—who walked the Trail of Tears to settle in Oklahoma—remained at the heart of their family. Candles honors this history through woodsy, earthy, and grounded fragrances using both essential oils and infused botanicals. These scents are inspired by the traditional botanicals used by the Choctaw tribe for ceremonial, cleansing, and medicinal purposes, offering a meaningful sensory experience that connects the past with the present.
