Ever since the days when my elementary school-aged self drew dozens of rudimentary doggos on any surface she could find (something my first-grade teacher loves to recall), I’ve kept myself mentally and creatively active. As an adult I had the opportunity to volunteer alongside this teacher and mentor of mine, a humbling and inspiring experience that continues to shape my worldview. In my work—draw

ings, paintings, collage, and fiber art—I depict the world around me in a sketched and at times abstract style, favoring nature scenes, animals, downtowns, and niche obsessions. I love the feeling of progress as an artwork takes shape; I rarely have the finished product complete in my head when I begin a project. My values include a healthy dose of optimism, enthusiasm, compassion, civic engagement, mindfulness, and more: themes I hope emerge through my work and provoke introspection from the viewer. -Kelly Leibold

I've missed my La Crosse Farmers Market vendor and shopper friends! 🥕🥦🍅 Tomorrow I return with fresh paintings, printed Soapbox zines (pictured is the reflection worksheet), and 🫣 some cursed furby plushes. I'll also have original stickers and collages at HCCC on the southside, so please swing by between 3:30 and 7:00pm to say hi 👋

This year not only do I turn 30 😱 but I reflect on my brain cancer diagnosis 10 years ago. Without sounding terribly sentimental, I truly believe everything I've been through shaped the four pillars of my soapbox--bandwidth, cringe, belonging, and resiliency. I am validated, challenged, and supported by my partner, our friends, and others in our community.

International Women's Day every March celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. I hope you'll take a moment to pause and reflect on our collective efforts!

It's time for a holiday season giveaway! ❄️📚🎨 so please help me spread the love: get a free copy of my soapbox ramblings with hand strung beads AND an original sketch on a paint chip ...on one condition: after reading this, you email me a little feedback. What did you like? What wasn't clear and could be revised? What else would you add? Comment below! I plan to pick six people on Sat Dec 6 and am happy to ship if you cannot pick up locally. Hopefully you'll get an opportunity to and this weekend, too.

As I gear up for the 2026 La Crosse Farmers Market Association season I'm considering what other crafty items I can compile; some of my sketches will probably turn into stickers soon. In a time that feels so divisive, I crave the sense of community that comes from interacting with other vendors and attendees. This post is also a call for connection: if you've ever wanted to grab coffee I'm also likely very interested. Please reach out! I hope my friends and neighbors have a restful, lovely holiday season. The following are three things I learned from painting this week that feel somewhat relevant given the... throws hands up in the air. Current state of affairs? Take care of yourself, friends. Compassion and community will get us through. When you have the ability to, stand squarely atop your soapbox.

1️⃣ If you're feeling stuck, starting something new can feel incredibly intimidating. Consider revisiting something from months or years prior that for some reason you never finished. (Sorry there are no "before" pictures.) Maybe now you'll have a fresh perspective.

2️⃣ Stop zooming out to see the full picture. Focus on where your paintbrush is at the moment it touches the artwork and make that detail matter.

3️⃣ Don't be afraid to share and celebrate a work in progress. Once the carousel is complete, pick up another canvas and create the next imperfect masterpiece.

Work pictured in the upper right corner was previously sold, but sharing it might motivate me to paint more! 🎨 I hope my Facebook friends are having a good summer and staying cool.
