🎀 DEAR HOMECOMING MUM MAKERS… PLEASE READ THIS. 🎀
We need to stop being scared to charge what our work is worth.
Because somehow, as crafters, we became really good at calculating the cost of ribbon… but TERRIBLE at calculating the cost of US.
We count the flowers.
We count the trinkets.
We count the ribbon.
But we forget to count the HOURS.
We forget the late nights when everybody else is asleep and we’re still sitting there with a glue gun in our hand.
We forget the burned fingertips. 🔥😂
We forget the ribbon we bought in six different colors because ONE customer needed a specific combination.
We forget the trips to the store because we were missing one little thing.
We forget the designing, cutting, braiding, layering, rearranging, gluing… then pulling something off because “Nope. I don’t like it.”
Sometimes making ONE custom mum costs us more than making FIVE, because when you’re making several, you can actually use those supplies more than once.
And then comes the hardest part…
💰 PRICING IT.
We look at something that took us HOURS and suddenly start thinking:
“Is that too much?”
“Are they going to think I’m expensive?”
“Maybe I should charge a little less…”
STOP. ✋🏼
That price isn't just for ribbon.
It’s for the creativity that knew what to do with that ribbon.
Anyone can buy supplies.
Not everyone can take a pile of ribbon, flowers, charms, names and ideas and turn them into something somebody is going to proudly wear for one of the biggest traditions of their school years.
At least for me, when a mum leaves my door, my name leaves with it.
So I don't rush.
I check it.
I pull on things.
I make sure it's secure.
I fix the tiny detail nobody else probably would've noticed because I noticed it.
Because when someone trusts me with their Homecoming Mum, I want them to open that bag and LOVE what they see. ❤️
So to every crafter sitting there wondering whether you're charging too much…
Remember:
✨ You're not just selling supplies.
✨ You're selling your creativity.
✨ You're selling your time.
✨ You're selling your experience.
✨ You're selling something YOUR hands created from nothing but an idea.
And maybe the first person who needs to understand the value of your work…
is you. ❤️
Charge for your work.
Be proud of your work.
And never apologize for knowing what your creativity is worth.
Because those glue-gun burns sure as hell weren't free. 😂🔥
