Yesterday wasn't good.

Honestly, I didn't have the words to talk about it. It's both nothing and everything all at once.

I've worked really hard to keep myself from getting back to this place, but yesterday I found myself completely dissociated and mentally exhausted. I can hold it together enough to get my business things done, answer messages, take care of what needs to be taken care of... but that doesn't mean I'm okay.

And lately, I'm realizing that I may need to start saying no to things for a while.

Today was another difficult situation involving my daughter. I don't want to focus too much on the details because it's a complicated situation, and people tend to see things in very black-and-white terms.

One side says, "Stop doing things for her. Cut contact. Put yourself first."

The other side says, "How could you do that to your child? You're her mom. You should let her come home."

But what people don't always understand is that there isn't a simple answer when you're trying to love and support your child while also trying to protect your own mental health.

My daughter is 21 and struggles with her own mental health challenges and doesn't yet have all the life skills to navigate everything on her own. I want her to know that she is loved. I want to support her. I want to help her learn how to stand on her own.

But sometimes there is no reasoning. No conversation that fixes it. No way to explain just how much emotional and mental anguish certain situations cause me.

Having to make the decision to have my child move out was one of the hardest things I've ever done. That kind of guilt doesn't just disappear.

So I struggle with everything else.

How do you stop doing things for your child without making them feel abandoned?

How do you put yourself first without feeling like you're failing as a parent?

How do you love someone deeply while also admitting that being around them can sometimes be damaging to your mental health?

I don't have the answers yet.

Today, after another difficult situation, I reached a point where I just didn't care about anything around me. I knew I should pull over, but in that moment I didn't care enough to do it. That scared me.

I'm home now, and thankfully I'm not feeling that way anymore. But it reminded me that I cannot keep pushing myself past my limits and pretending I'm okay.

Tomorrow, a friend is taking me out, and honestly, I think that's exactly what I need right now. A change of scenery. A little laughter. A reason to get out of my own head.

I'm also trying to keep my business going through all of this. I know I need to be more consistent with posting on my page, it's just frustrating because I'm already dealing with restrictions on my page and not being recommended to anyone new. Facebook says I'm impersonating someone, Ive complied with everything they asked me to do but they haven't lifted the restriction is. So that's just another adventure on top of everything else.

But I'm trying.

I'm taking things one day at a time. I'm learning that taking care of myself isn't selfish. Setting boundaries doesn't mean I don't love my daughter. Saying no doesn't mean I've abandoned her.

Sometimes loving someone means recognizing that you cannot save them by destroying yourself in the process.

And that's really why I'm sharing all of this.

I'm opening myself up about my mental health because I want to be honest. I want people who struggle with their own mental health to know that they aren't alone.

And maybe, just maybe, someone who doesn't struggle with mental health will read this and understand a little more about what it can actually look like behind the scenes.

Sometimes you're functioning.

Sometimes you're running a business.

Sometimes you're taking care of your kids.

Sometimes you're answering messages and smiling like everything is fine.

And sometimes you're barely holding yourself together.

None of those things make the struggle any less real.

I'm still here. I'm still trying. And for right now, that's enough. 🖤🖤🖤 Picture for attention

With the Lindsey Clancy story being in the news, I feel like sharing my own mental health journey is more important than ever.

I can't imagine the amount of horror, grief, and regret someone could experience after doing something unimaginable during a severe mental health crisis. I know that, at times, my own mental health challenges have caused me to act impulsively or make decisions that I deeply regret. That doesn't excuse those choices, but it does remind me how important it is to talk honestly about what mental health crises can actually look like.

So here’s my update.

On Monday, I shared what my anxiety attack felt like. What I didn't share was that I never completely recovered from it. I went to bed that night still shaking and using controlled breathing to keep myself grounded and present.

The next day was another difficult day, especially because I had to drive around town for several different things.

I started the day feeling relatively positive. I knew a little more about what to expect, and I made it through the first two trips without any problems.

By the third trip, though, I knew I was in trouble.

I was trying to hold on to every part of me that knew everything was going to be okay. And then, for a few seconds, something shifted.

I stopped caring about myself or the people around me and made a few dangerous decisions.

I'm not proud of that.

I'm incredibly grateful that I was on my way home and that nothing happened. Because in those few seconds where I wasn't okay, lives could have been changed forever.

That's a terrifying thing to admit.

I had reached a point where I had simply had enough.

And I think it's important to say this out loud because things like this happen more often than most people realize. Mental health crises aren't always visible. Sometimes someone can look completely fine from the outside while internally they are fighting like hell just to stay in control.

I am currently in a C-PTSD episode, and I am working my way through it.

Yesterday, I made the decision to completely shut everything down and rest. No phone. No social media. No obligations. Just rest and calming activities. I ended up watching a really good miniseries called I Will Find You, and honestly, sometimes doing absolutely nothing is exactly what your brain needs.

I also saw my therapist yesterday and my psychiatrist today.

My psychiatrist increased my lamotrigine and Trileptal, we're adding another anxiety medication, and my clonidine had already been increased at my previous appointment. I am getting help. I am taking my medications as prescribed, and I am doing everything I can to stay on top of this.

I know I'm fortunate to have access to that support, and I don't take it for granted.

The reality is that all of this also takes a toll on my chronic pain. When my nervous system is constantly on high alert, my body feels it too.

I'm not sharing this because I'm proud of what happened.

I'm sharing it because this is my reality right now.

Mental illness can be messy. It can be frightening. It can make you do or think things that don't feel like the person you know yourself to be.

But I'm still here.

I'm getting help. I'm resting when I need to rest. I'm learning to recognize when I'm reaching my limits, and I'm doing my best to make the safest choices I can.

This is my story.

And for anyone else quietly struggling through something similar: you are not the only one. 🖤🖤🖤
