Here is the thing, both are real. The flag designed by Puerto Rican exiles in New York in 1895 used a soft sky blue, the same shade as Cuba's flag, a deliberate signal of solidarity between two independence movements. When the Commonwealth officially adopted the flag in 1952, the triangle was darkened to a navy blue that matched the United States flag. The 1952 law never named one exact shade, which is exactly why both versions still fly today. 🇵🇷
