New round of Olive Wood Cross Pens are now available. This beautiful Olive Wood is certified from Bethlehem, the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The wood is so powerful to me; whether holding it to write your grocery list or holding it to pray 🙏

Each pen is very unique with some having many black accents and others a bit more muted to fit your specific tastes. These pens have been very popular so if you would like to have one by Easter just let me know. If one sells that you really like I do have a limited supply of wood left I can try to recreate a pen with similar grain patterns that you prefer. As always each pen comes with a pen bag and extra refill!

Tonight’s highlighted wood is the American Osage Orange tree or as some people know it as Hedge. I always thought the hedge apples kept spiders away however this has been pretty much debunked. That said this beautiful yellow wood was prized by Native American tribes for making great bows as well as by farmers for the rot-resistant properties and used for fence posts and tool handles. Well I like it for the obvious bright yellow appearance and use it for pens, cutting boards, and turkey calls! Took a torch to one to give it a slightly different look! As always these come with an extra refill and pen bag.

Highlighting a new wood today; the American Ash Tree. Some of you may know that the Midwest was once hit heavily by the Emerald Ash Borer Beatle back in the mid 2000’s leaving devastating results as they annihilated the local ash tree population. Thankfully the beetles did not kill them all; but a very high majority in areas. These 5 pens all come from a local ash tree that was taken to the saw mill during this time. I selected this big board to cut and turn into pen blanks because of the nice figured wood as you can see with the wavy grain patterns. Mixture in the pen hardware and colors depending on what you prefer. I have more of this same figured ash if you would like a different set of hardware as well. As always these all come with a pen bag and an extra refill!

I got a bunch more Olive Wood in today! Figured i would share a pic of some of the wood i received to give an idea on the grain patterns. This entire batch is beautiful! Going to start semi-regular updates to let everyone know what is happening here at Upland Woodshop! To start it off, here are some hardwood dyed slimline pens! The woods are dyed through then glued together before being cut and hand lathed to form. These are great everyday writers or if you just want to have something a little fancy for certain occasions! Also if you have a pen snatcher around this is the perfect pen for you as you will be able to track it down 😂. All of my pens come with a pen bag and an extra black refill as well. More color patterns available and will have more to post soon! If one of these strikes your fancy just let me know. Thank you to all of our supporters we appreciate you all!

WOOD CONTEST TIME

Seem to get a lot of questions on the types of woods I use for my my turkey calls, cutting boards, and serving boards so we thought let’s just have a weekly contest! Will post a new wood species weekly and if you guess it correctly your name will be put in for a random draw for 10% off anything from Upland Woodshop! Board, bowl, vase, turkey call, table, whatever you are after! Schedule fluctuates since it is deer season and all; but this week the drawing will happen on Wednesday evening! This may be too easy and if so I will make them more difficult in upcoming weeks!
