Choosing the right sheen can make a bigger difference than you think.

A quick breakdown of where to use each:

Flat: Low sheen, best suited for ceilings.
Eggshell: A subtle sheen, perfect for most walls.
Satin: More durable and easy to clean, great for kitchens, bathrooms, and trim.
Semi-Gloss: Durable and moisture-resistant, ideal for trim, doors, and cabinetry.
High-Gloss: Maximum shine and drama. Perfect for making a statement! Try color drenching a room in a high gloss paint.

A rug is likely to be one of the largest pieces in a room. It sets the tone for the entire space, grounds the furniture, and ties everything together.

Treat it like artwork.

Choose a quality material that will stand up to everyday life and age beautifully. Wool is one of my favorites. It’s naturally durable, hides wear well, and is relatively easy to clean. A good rug is worth the investment.

I love the warm, inviting feeling of a lived-in, collected home. What I don’t love? Vintage-inspired décor mass-produced with cheap materials.

It’s missing the whole point.

What makes a great vintage or antique piece special is the craftsmanship, the quality of the materials, the life it’s lived, and the stories that come with it. Those are the things that give a home character and they simply can’t be replicated by mass production.

Skip the “fake” vintage décor.

Find the actual vintage piece. You’ll likely get better materials, better craftsmanship, and something with a story to tell. And the best part? You can often find it secondhand for the same price, or even less, than the brand-new imitation.
