How do you achieve a broken layout to create a distinct and defined space yet still feel connected to the rest of the living areas.

1. Create interior partitions with wide open doorways to transition one room to the next. Tip: Make the doorways some version of an arch.

2. Mix up floor patterns using the same material. Herringbone and a straight layout are a good combo.
This still gives a cohesive look without being too bland and predictable.

3. Instead of a flat ceiling, a well designed coffered or beamed ceiling can create an invisible partition to separate your kitchen from the rest of the living area.
