Let me walk you through my thought process of designing my Art in Bloom gallery arrangement. We were assigned two pieces of artwork to choose from, and I went with My View by Sam Gilliam.

Immediately drawn to the primary colors, layered paneling, a-symmetry, and the movement it exudes across the canvas itself. I decided to stick with color blocking each primary color to emphasize the base of his canvas. From there I knew the design needed to feel layered with tons of depth.

Being in a gallery, the florists were all asked to use Oasis foam to ensure water doesn’t risk ruining any artwork. Being a foam-free florist we knew we wanted to do this event - BUT had to stick to our core principles of being a foam-free shop. We used a natural alternative called Agra-wool and a bit of chicken wire for the mechanics.

Sourcing very hardy flowers for this design was crucial to ensure it stays pristine over the next 3 days. We strictly arrange with wire and water to ensure optimal vase life for our designs. But with this I had to be very intentional on each flower variety. I used a mix of locally grown flowers like coxcomb and strawflower. Mixing in unique imported stems like the Banksia Coccinea and the Caud Spider Amaranth were a fun twist that people in Lou aren’t always used to seeing.

Creating an arrangement inspired by the color and shape of My View by Sam Gilliam artwork was such a fun project. As soon as I saw the piece I immediately knew primary colors would be the color palette, alongside an asymmetric shape with layered textures.

Story time💞 From meeting for coffee at Quills last fall to her wedding day this May, time flew by. Working alongside her has been a true joy. She is a literal ray of sunshine and anyone who gets the privilege of meeting her is so lucky!

We love a type-a girly who crosses off a checklist and has fun doing it. Dreaming up her floral mood board, floral recipes, and bringing it to life was always a blast each step of the way and knowing she trusted us wholeheartedly made it easy.

We worked through two rounds of color palettes and landed on such a vibrant design that felt like her. Hannah was super laid back about flower choices outside of a few things she loved and maybe wasn’t the biggest fan of. This is exactly how we like to work, taking what you love and running with it.

Sometimes flowers arrive and they just fit the brief effortlessly, so you go all in. Logged online and scored some amazing product from our local growers the week of. Then, two days before I did a last minute walk-in at market and scored again. So I just couldn’t help but create two bridal bouquets for Hannah. When you hit a flow state you know, and this wedding was that for me. 💞 Maids and bridal bouquets a were an absolutely favorite! Safe to say she loved it.

Giving your florist more room to stretch their creative expertise and muscles always ends up producing a stellar, one-of-a-kind design that feels fresh and unique to you.
