I spent over a decade building a career in digital experience — long days, late nights, back-to-back screens. The kind of work that’s rewarding in many ways, but quietly draining in others. I didn’t realize how much it was wearing on me until I found myself sitting in the dark most evenings, eyes aching from the blue glow, craving something softer… something human.
I started burning candles at my desk, keeping the lights low to cut the strain and create a sense of calm. But most fragrance candles did the opposite of what I needed — triggering asthma, headaches, and that heavy, synthetic feeling that never quite sat right.
So I began making them myself.
Not to start a brand.
Not to leave my career.
Just to feel better. To breathe easier.
To bring a little beauty into the parts of my life that had felt monotonous and over-mechanized.
Working with my hands again — melting wax, setting wicks, blending clean, safe fragrances — shifted something in me. For the first time in a long time, I felt present. Creative. Grounded. Connected to the real world instead of the digital one.
What started as a way to reclaim my space became a way to reclaim myself.
Oak + Ember is my comeback story — a return from a life that was draining and overly defined by output and achievement, back to something quiet, intentional, and soul-nourishing. A reminder that we’re meant to create, not just produce. That the things we make with our hands can heal the parts of us our careers never could.
This brand is proof that even in the most mundane seasons, a spark can still catch. And with a little care, it becomes a flame.
