Today is rendering day!! Specifically lard!!! Wanted to have my equipment working for me as I work outside on this beautiful day!!! It’s best to grind it if you can, or cut into small pieces to help it render down!! My roaster is on 200 and I will let it go slowly!!! I do not want to crank the heat as it will make the lard not as appetizing as I want it to be! Once completely rendered I will pour into quarts and let cool.. it will go from clear to a snowy white! I will keep one in the fridge and the others frozen until needed!! I know I will get asked how will you use it? I will replace shortening in my recipes with lard, I can season my cast iron with it. Lard has a high smoke point so you can use it to fry chicken, pan sear meats or roast veggies.
