How Much More- A Bird Collection
Original Mixed Media Paintings | 12 × 12 inches each, Framed

There is something beautifully ordinary about a bird going about its day building, gathering, resting, flying without carrying the weight of tomorrow.

How Much More is a small collection of Arizona birds and hummingbirds inspired by Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:26
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

These six paintings began with layers of abstract color, texture, mark-making and collage before each bird slowly emerged from the surface.

At the heart of the collection is a simple reminder: if God notices and cares for even the smallest of His creation, how much more does He see and care for you?

Each painting carries its own expression of that truth

These began as three colorful abstract paintings with no birds in sight. I wanted the original marks, movement and unexpected color to remain visible beneath each new layer rather than beginning on a quiet, perfectly prepared background.

Slowly, a quail, cactus wren and roadrunner began to emerge.

They’re still in progress, and I’m letting each one tell me what needs to stay bold, what needs to soften and which imperfect marks are worth protecting. That push and pull is one of my favorite parts of painting.

This is the beginning of a new Arizona bird collection, and I’m already imagining how beautiful they’ll look together once all the final details are in place.

Which one are you drawn to first: the quail, wren or roadrunner? 🤍

Each flower is in a different stage. One open and confident, while the others are still emerging softly from the background. I like that they aren’t fully rendered perfectly. It reminds me that growth doesn’t always have to be obvious or happen all at once. Sometimes God is doing His deepest work in the quiet.. in the background.

Beneath all of the painted layers, I wrote the words of Matthew 28:20 “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Stillness isn’t weakness. Sometimes it is simply the peace that comes from knowing you are held.
