Well…now that we’ve gotten that out of the way.

If you're here for hangar homes, airplanes, ridiculously thought-out floor plans, beautiful spaces that actually function, and the occasional corgi appearance you're probably in the right place.

I'm Ariel, the designer behind Aeroview. I design hangar homes and aviation properties for people who want their home to work just as beautifully with their aviation lifestyle as it does with everyday life.

Before you start drawing your hangar home floorplan, there are a few things I want to know first✈️

And surprisingly, “How many bedrooms do you want?” isn't at the top of my list.

I want to know what you're flying now and what you might fly later. I want to understand the property, taxiway access, and where the hangar wants to sit. I want to know how you entertain, what you want to see from the kitchen, how you imagine using the backyard, who comes to stay with you, and what this home may need to do for you ten years from now.

Because the floorplan shouldn't determine how you live. How you live should determine the floorplan.

Apparently one aviation residence wasn’t enough 😂

After designing a custom aviation residence for one of my clients, the airpark loved what we created so much that they wanted something they could share with new buyers and existing lot owners.

So, we created a flyer showcasing what life at the airpark could look like and this is exactly why I love designing hangar homes.

It’s not just about creating a beautiful house next to a hangar. It’s about understanding the property, taxiway access, hangar placement, how the home connects to the aviation lifestyle, and how all of it comes together.

One client project turned into an opportunity to help other aviation families see the possibilities for their own property.

“We already have an architect. When do we need an interior designer?”

This is one of the questions I hear from people planning a hangar home and the answer is usually earlier than they expect.

An architect and interior designer aren't interchangeable, but they also shouldn't be working in completely separate stages of the project.

Your architect is looking at the architecture, structure, site, codes, exterior, and technical requirements of the building.

As your interior designer, I'm looking at how you're actually going to live inside it.

Does the furniture fit? Does the kitchen work for the way you entertain? Where does your flight bag go when you come home? Can you see your airplane from the spaces where you want that connection? Is there enough storage? Does the lighting work with the furniture plan? How does the hangar connect to everyday life?

For a hangar home, those decisions are all connected.

The neighborhood amenity is a runway 😂✈️

Living at an airpark is just a little different from living in a normal neighborhood.

Airplanes taxi past the house.
Hangar doors are open.
Neighbors disappear for the afternoon because the weather was too good not to fly.

And yes, you absolutely stop whatever you're doing when you hear an airplane overhead that sounds interesting.

But I think my favorite part is how aviation simply becomes part of everyday life.

Morning coffee with a view of the runway. Walking over to the hangar. Friends flying in instead of driving over. Sitting outside and watching airplanes come and go.

It's one of the reasons I love designing hangar homes and aviation residences so much.

You're not just designing a house at an airport.
You're designing around an entirely different way of living. ✈️

Your hangar home design actually starts outside. ✈️

One of the biggest mistakes I see in early hangar home planning is starting with the house and assuming we'll figure out where everything else goes later.

I want to start with the property.

Where is the street? Where is the taxiway? How does your airplane move onto the property? Where should the hangar sit? What are the best views? Where does the sun set? Where do you want the pool and outdoor living? How do cars reach the garage without the driveway taking over the property?

I've been thinking about this even more while working with aviation properties in Pecan Plantation. On these long airpark lots, the relationship between the street, residence, backyard, hangar, and taxiway can completely shape the design.

When we understand those relationships first, we're not simply placing a house and hangar on a lot.

We're designing the entire property around the way you live and fly.

I just realized I’ve never actually shown you this entire aviation residence ✈️

This one has been so much fun to dream up.

The property includes the main residence, hangar and detached cottage, all designed to feel like they belong together rather than three separate buildings that happened to land on the same property.

And of course, one of my favorite parts: you’re living at an airport. Walk out your door, head to the hangar, pull out the airplane and go🤙🏻

This is the kind of project that made me fall in love with designing for the aviation lifestyle. It’s not just about creating a beautiful home. It’s about creating a beautiful way to live.

You know the beautiful rendering everyone gets excited about?

That’s only one piece of what it takes to create a finished hangar home or hangar.

Before that image becomes reality, we’ve already worked through how the space needs to function, the floor plan, furniture placement, lighting, architectural details, materials, scale, and dozens of decisions you’ll probably never consciously notice in the finished room.

And after the design is approved? There’s still sourcing, ordering, tracking, freight, receiving, damage claims, installation, styling, and plenty of problem-solving along the way.

This is especially important in hangar homes and hangars, where we’re often designing within oversized architecture and creating spaces that may need to function as a home, pilot lounge, office, entertaining space, and operational hangar all while maintaining a connection to the aircraft and aviation lifestyle.

Funny how the thing that changes your career can be something you never planned for.

Aeroview’s aviation niche started because I designed my own studio inside a hangar.

That was it.

I wasn’t trying to “find a niche.” I created a space I loved, people responded to it, and I started paying attention.

Sometimes I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to have the entire plan figured out that we miss what’s unfolding right in front of us.

Follow the thing that lights you up. Notice what people keep asking you for. Be willing to go somewhere you didn’t originally plan.

You might accidentally build a career you couldn’t have dreamed up if you tried. ✈️

It seems pretty fitting that I’m sharing this on National Aviation Day. ✈️

Aviation has shaped an entire lifestyle and designing the spaces where that lifestyle happens on the ground is exactly why I created Aeroview.

This private aircraft hangar project includes approximately 2,800 square feet of finished interior space across two levels, and there is a lot more happening in this floorplan than simply finding places for rooms.

We’re thinking about how the owner uses the hangar, where people naturally gather, how the finished spaces relate to the aircraft, sightlines, circulation, storage, and what happens once the engine shuts down.

I’ve already shared a closer look at the pilot lounge, but there are so many individual decisions within this floorplan that I’m turning it into a series.

I’ll be breaking down different areas of the hangar and sharing why I designed them the way I did.

Because a private hangar shouldn’t just be designed around where the airplane fits.
It should be designed around the life you live because of it.

Happy National Aviation Day to the pilots, aviation families, builders, dreamers and everyone else who understands there’s something pretty special about life around airplanes. ✈️
