See how this design became a custom medicine cabinet for Kailey Cartwright’s new bathroom!

I had an initial consultation with Kailey about what she and her husband Chris wanted, which was a cabinet that looks like framed art on the wall with a nature theme, which then reveals to a recessed cabinet. I provided three nature designs with various options, and Kailey went with the second design of three mountains and trees with some edits.

To give depth to the mountains, I found wood that was different thicknesses and colors. Some of the wood came from pallets while other was wood folks were throwing out. To give the framed art look, I routed a frame and cut two recessed finger-holds so the cabinet can be easily opened before attaching it to the side.

Not pictured is the inside where there are four adjustable shelves and the wood matches the oak frame.

It was so awesome working with Kailey to create the perfect medicine cabinet for her and Chris’s new bathroom!

Want a date where you screw? Or need the kids entertained so you can do your own date?

You’re in luck! This fall I’m teaching two Maker Space Classes at the Foundry (Cambridge Foundry) in Cambridge, MA! I’m excited to spend more time on the “teaching and inspiring folks to upcycle” part of my business now that I’ve created a good amount of products (though I’m always coming up with more ). I can’t think of a better place to host my first official classes than at the Foundry. INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORKING - TRAY/DRINK CARRIER
- Two offerings:
- Sun. 9/27, 1:30-5:30pm
- Sun. 11/22, 1:30-5:30pm
- Cost: $46.00-$56.25

Learn how to safely use basic woodworking tools and to create a box and a handle via you choosing to make either a tray or a drink caddy. Attendees will also learn how to upcycle wood from shipping pallets. All materials provided and no prior woodworking experience necessary. Ages 14+, 8 students; closed-toe shoes required.

IMAGINATION CITY!
- Mon. 10/12, 6-8pm
- Cost: $25.00-$31.25

Kids will have the opportunity to use materials that are usually recycled or thrown out (e.g., soda cans, plastic bottles, toilet paper rolls, foam packaging) to create their own building or city location. Then near the end of class, the kids bring their creations together to create Imagination City! In this class, kids get the creative thrill to use whatever provided material they want and how they want while also learning to be environmentally conscious. Ages 6-12; 10 students.

Custom flower window box commissioned by my friend Laura as a birthday gift for her wife Eva that shows off the awesomeness of French cleats! It’s just two boards (I usually use 2x4s) cut long way at a 45 degree angle, with one attached to the mounted item and the corresponding one attached to the mounting location.

French cleats are easy to make, super strong while also being really versatile (as it’s simple to mount and unmount them) and some even say elegant as the mounting boards are usually hidden from view when the object is mounted.

I have an extensive French cleat system in my workshop so I can move around tools to suit my needs. Highly recommend French cleats for your mounting needs and workshops!
