The Wood Soldier

The Wood Soldier Turning wood into art. Welcome to the Wood Soldier, a veteran owned small business specializing in handmade custom wooden items. I don't use any stains or dyes.

I've always had a passion for woodworking. So after a tour of duty in Vietnam for which I was awarded a Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Bronze Star with "V" device I embarked on a 40 year career in residential & commercial carpentry. Retirement has given me the time to work on smaller creative and artistic pursuits. I believe in the natural beauty of wood. Continue to check my FB book to see what I am working on and I am always looking for suggestions.

Been working on a new plaid end grain cutting board design, and this one is part of the learning curve - your reward.
It’s made from maple, oak, cherry and walnut. It is 13” X 20”. Still refining the design, but this one is fully functional and full of character.
I’m only asking for the cost of the wood and shipping if you’re out of the area for a local pick up. If anyone is interested and wants to give this one a good home, please message me b

Spent some time on the lathe making these French Rollong Pins. Really pleased with how they turned out. They’re very easy to care for. Just hand wash, dry immediately and oil occasionally. I use mineral oil. If you’re interested please message me for details.

I was asked build a cell phone amplifier that would fit on a desk and allow the user to play music at a reasonable volume.

First, I’d like to thank all of you who continued to visit my site while I recuperated. I plan to get back into my shop on a regular basis again, but for now I started slow with Christmas ornaments.

Took a step back in time today at Wade House and watched an old sawmill in action—complete with a working reciprocating saw from the mid-to-late 1800s. Back then, this was cutting-edge technology (pun intended). It’s amazing to see how much work (and noise!) went into every board. Makes me extra thankful for the tools we have today. Still… there’s something pretty cool about watching history in motion.
