Here in Minnesota we are fortunate to have our school meals paid via tax dollars. I for one am in favor of ensuring all kids regardless of financial situation get two meals a day. My kiddo however has decided to go in a different direction.

Chicken bacon and cheese wrap
Jalapeño cheddar tortilla with lettuce, tomato and ranch. Paired with chips, fruit and a flavored water lunch comes to approximately $2.92.

I make these 5 days a week. Anyone else have a kid who eats the same thing everyday? At least I know if federal work doesn't pan out I can work at Chipotle.

Dinner tonight-

For those looking for a 1990s flashback!

Rice Oriental Copycat $2.19 per serving

1lb ground beef
1 pack beefy onion soup mix
1/4 c soy sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp pepper
1 1/4 c instant rice
4 c water

Brown and drain beef. Add rice, seasonings and water. Bring to a boil over medium high heat. Drop to a simmer and cover. Cook until rice is tender. Approximately 15-20 minutes. Serves 4-5.

Hello everyone. Given the current uncertainty surrounding the government, I'm excited to launch this page and leverage my newfound time to make a positive impact. As a furloughed federal employee with a culinary degree, I'm eager to contribute.

These are actual meals my family and I eat on a regular basis. All prices are based on my local area of St Cloud, Minnesota.
