🧀 Sometimes the side dish is what everyone looks forward to!

My baked Macaroni and Cheese starts with a homemade cheese sauce. Sharp cheddar gives it plenty of flavor.

A little extra cheese on top makes that golden, bubbly finish.
Serve it beside chicken, pork chops, or your favorite meatloaf.

Save this one for family suppers and holiday menus.

Do you reach for a corner serving or scoop from the middle?

A little molasses and warm spice make such a lovely homemade cookie!
YaYa’s Molasses Crackles are rolled in sugar before they go into the oven.
They bake up with pretty cracked tops and a sparkling coating.
Ginger, cinnamon, and cloves give every bite plenty of flavor.
Enjoy one with your afternoon coffee or a cold glass of milk.
They would make a wonderful addition to a holiday cookie tray, too.
Prefer smaller cookies? The original recipe includes a shorter baking time.
Save this recipe for your next baking day!

🍗 A little crunch makes chicken night even better!

My Crunchy Baked Chicken has a golden coating without frying. Use crushed cornflakes or seasoned breadcrumbs.

The dressing helps the coating stick and adds flavor, too.
Serve it with the pepper-onion dipping sauce for something different.

I’d add a vegetable and mashed potatoes to make a full supper.

Which coating would you choose, cornflakes or breadcrumbs?

Angel Biscuits

Have you ever made Angel Biscuits?

They’re a little like a biscuit and a little like a yeast roll, with a soft middle that’s perfect for a little butter or jam.

This is the kind of recipe worth bringing back to the table. You can serve them with breakfast or put a basket beside supper.

What would you put on yours, butter, honey, or homemade jelly?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️

Hillbilly Pie

Sometimes the recipes with the simplest ingredients are the ones everybody wants again.

Mama Shirley’s Hillbilly Pie starts with butter, flour, sugar, milk, and your favorite fruit pie filling.

It bakes into a sweet, golden dessert that’s especially good served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The hardest part might be deciding which fruit to use!

Would you choose cherry, peach, or apple?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️

Homemade Meatballs

There’s something about a pot of meatballs simmering in tomato sauce that makes supper feel a little more special.

These are made with ground beef, a little pork, bread crumbs, and simple seasonings.

No long shopping list, just a good homemade meal you can serve over spaghetti or tuck into a roll.

A piece of bread to catch the extra sauce would be welcome at my table, too.

Does your family prefer spaghetti and meatballs or a meatball sandwich?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️

Southern Pecan Pie

Does pecan pie have a place on your holiday dessert table?

This is one of Mama Shirley’s favorites, made with pecans, melted butter, and dark corn syrup in a deep-dish pie crust.

That sweet filling and those pecans make a small slice feel like plenty, although I wouldn’t blame anyone for going back for another.

It’s a good one to bake ahead and let cool while you finish the rest of the meal.

Do you enjoy yours plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️

Crunchy Crust French Toast

Have you ever put cornflakes and coconut on French toast?

That’s what gives this recipe its crisp coating, with a soft middle underneath.

Add a little warm maple syrup, and breakfast is looking pretty good!

This would be a nice change for a weekend morning when there’s time to sit down and enjoy it.

Would you try the coconut coating, or do you usually stick with traditional French toast?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️

Navy Bean Soup

Anybody else start thinking about a pot of soup when the weather cools down?

This Navy Bean Soup has tender beans, ham, onion, carrots, and celery, all simmered together for a filling homemade meal.

It takes a little time on the stove, but that gives you time to get the rest of supper ready.

I’d serve it with cornbread and keep the meal simple.

What did your family serve with bean soup, cornbread, biscuits, or crackers?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️

Egg Custard Pie

Anybody remember seeing an egg custard pie cooling on the kitchen counter?

It’s such a simple dessert, with a smooth filling and a little vanilla tucked into a pie shell.

There’s no fancy topping to make. Just let it cool, cut a slice, and enjoy an old-fashioned favorite.

Recipes like this are part of why I love keeping the older ones around.

Did someone in your family make custard pie?

I’ll leave the recipe below. ❤️
