A NEW PROJECT WITH QUITE A VIEW! 🌊

We're giving this oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach a complete makeover, and I thought I'd bring you along for the transformation!

We're tackling everything from the kitchen and bathroom to flooring, paint, and all those design details that make a space feel special.

First up, the kitchen!

Rather than replacing perfectly good cabinets, we're making some thoughtful modifications, adding gorgeous Fantasy Brown countertops, a new backsplash, and a few details that will give this kitchen a completely different personality.

And this is just the beginning!

I'll be sharing the progress, the design decisions, and plenty of behind the scenes moments as we transform this condo into something pretty special.

Wait until you see what we have planned for the rest of it!

LOOK WHAT I FOUND 👀

Caning in coastal design? Not exactly new.

But caning that looks like lace?

Now THAT caught my attention.

I spotted this chair while sourcing at Home Accents and had to stop for a closer look.

I love how the woven back takes something we’ve seen in coastal interiors forever and makes it feel completely different - still natural and relaxed, but a little more refined and unexpected.

And that’s usually what catches my eye.

Not necessarily something we’ve never seen before, but a fresh take on something familiar.

This one is good.

Powder rooms are not the place to play it safe.

At least not in my book.

A powder room is one of my favorite places to do something a little unexpected. It’s a small space, which means you can take a design risk without committing an entire house to it.

For this one, we went bold with an oversized floral wallpaper on the walls.

And then we looked up.

Instead of stopping the design at the ceiling, I used cork wallpaper overhead to add another layer of warmth and texture.

The warm wood mirror, sculptural lighting and stone countertop bring it all together without competing with the pattern.

I love rooms that make you stop for a second when you walk in.

And sometimes the smallest room in the house is the perfect place to make the biggest statement.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND 👀

Yes, it’s teak.

Yes, it’s real wood.

And yes… it can go in your shower.

I spotted this out on a sourcing shopping trip and immediately started imagining all the places I could use it.

This is one of my favorite parts of being a designer - finding a material I haven’t used before and instantly starting to design a room around it in my head.

Now I just need the right client who will let me play. 😉

Pretty kitchens usually have an ugly middle.

This is the part of a remodel you don’t see very often on a designer’s feed.

Walls are open. Plumbing and electrical are exposed. Cabinets are gone. Dust is everywhere. And for a little while, your house looks absolutely nothing like the beautiful space we’ve been planning.

But this part matters.

Because before the new cabinets, countertops, lighting and backsplash can go in, everything behind them has to be right.

This is also where project management becomes just as important as the design.

There are different companies and trades involved, decisions that need to be made in the right order, questions that come up once walls are opened, materials arriving on different timelines and dozens of details that have to stay coordinated.

My job is to keep all of those moving pieces moving toward the same finished picture.

So yes, I love the pretty part.

But I also know how important the ugly middle is.

Because this is where the pretty starts getting built.

“Just pick a paint color.”

Famous last words. 😆

A paint color never exists by itself.

It changes depending on the natural light in the room, the direction the windows face, the flooring, cabinetry, countertops, furniture and even the colors in the rooms around it.

That beautiful soft neutral you loved in someone else’s house? It might suddenly look pink, yellow, green or gray in yours.

This is why I rarely choose a paint color by looking at one little swatch and calling it done.

I look at the whole room - and how that room connects to the rest of the house.

Because good design isn’t really about choosing individual things you love.

It’s about choosing things that work beautifully together.

And yes, sometimes that means staring at six colors that look exactly the same to everyone else. 😉

A beautiful bathroom is easy to photograph.

What you don’t see in the photo are the hundreds of decisions it took to get here.

Where the plumbing needs to land. How the tile transitions. The height of the lighting. Which finishes work together. What needs to be ordered first. What happens when something arrives damaged. Whether the thing that looked perfect online actually works once it’s in the room.

And then there are all the decisions nobody planned for - because every project has a few of those.

That’s why I’ve never thought of my job as simply choosing beautiful things.

My job is to make all of those decisions feel a whole lot easier for my clients.

You get to enjoy the finished room.

I’ll worry about the details that got us there.

Spaces that feel as good as they look.

The glamorous side of interior design. 😂

I’m usually the one behind the camera on my projects, so every once in a while I accidentally make it into a photo.

This is actually a pretty good picture of what a lot of my days look like.

Measuring. Checking. Answering questions. Making decisions. Catching the little things. Talking with contractors. Going back to the plan. And occasionally saying, “Can we move that about two inches?”

The pretty part of design is fun - choosing the tile, the lighting, the furniture, the finishes.

But getting from the design to the finished space takes a whole different kind of work.

That’s a big part of what I do at Beach Nest.

I coordinate the moving pieces, manage the details and help make sure what we designed on paper is actually what gets built in your home.

Especially for so many of my clients who don’t live here full-time, having someone local who knows the project and is paying attention matters.

Because good design isn’t just about making a space look beautiful.

It’s about making sure it all comes together.

Designed. Managed. Done right.

The Beach Nest before it became the Beach Nest. 😂

I had already named my business Beach Nest Interiors when a friend of mine, who is also an interior designer, and I started doing a few staging projects together.

The first time we worked together I saw this hanging on the wall and immediately said:

“That’s a Beach Nest!”

😂

I mean… LOOK AT IT.

She eventually gifted it to me, and it became the inspiration for the Beach Nest logo.

I love that it’s made from all these different pieces of driftwood - different shapes, different textures, nothing perfectly matched - but together they create something beautiful.

Which, now that I think about it, is pretty fitting for the way I design too.

I don’t think a home should look like everything was chosen from one showroom on the same afternoon. The best spaces have layers. Something old with something new. Things you’ve collected. Things that mean something to you. And a few unexpected pieces that somehow just work.

Spaces that feel as good as they look.

And this little piece of Beach Nest history still makes me smile.

The prettiest room in the world isn’t good design if it doesn’t work for the people who live there.

I’ve always believed that.

I love the pretty stuff. Give me tile, wallpaper, lighting and a pile of fabric samples and I’m a happy girl. 😂

But when I’m designing a space, I’m thinking about a lot more than how it’s going to photograph when we’re finished.

Where are you going to put your stuff?

How do you actually use this room?

Is that beautiful finish going to hold up in a vacation rental?

Does the kitchen work when everyone shows up for Thanksgiving?

Can your guests find somewhere to plug in their phone without crawling behind the nightstand? 😂

Those little things matter.

Because ultimately, I’m not designing a photograph. I’m designing a space people are going to live in.

And whether it’s your full-time home, your place at the beach or an investment property that welcomes a new family every week, I want it to be beautiful, but I also want it to make sense.

That’s what I mean when I say I want to create spaces that feel as good as they look. 💛
