For the past 20 years, our oldest and dearest friends Nick and Gardiner Lapham (they met at our wedding) have been tending and stewarding Sunnyside Farm & Conservancy a 460 acre property in Rappanhannock County, Virginia, that abuts a section of the Shenandoah National Park, a federally designated wilderness. (Swipe to see more breathtaking photos and to learn more about Sunnyside Farm & Conservancy )

This is no weekend getaway - though its fabulous 1785 farmhouse does provide the Laphams and their three children a respite from their urban life in Washington, DC. This is a working farm. But not of the sort you might imagine. Yes, there is a robust organic farming operation that supplies fresh fruit and vegetables to local and city farmers markets and to top restaurants, such as the nearby Inn at Little Washington. (Swipe for more Sunnyside Farm & Conservancy)

But to me, its highest purpose is preserving - and building - the biodiversity that supports a world of plants and animals, rivers and birds, old growth trees and insects. (Swipe to see live video)

(Sound 🆙 ) Through the live feed from 20 trail cameras installed across the acreage, anyone - those of you reading this - can witness the pure beauty of nature unfolding in the way God intended it to. Slowly. Without human interruption. And with all the joy and humor that we otherwise don’t get to witness. (Next slide for more Sunnyside Farm & Conservancy )

I highly recommend a subscription to the Sunnyside Farm & Conservancy weekly livestream where you’ll watch a bear friend scratch his back against a tree (see above), or a Mama bear and her cubs frolic in an old cistern. (Next slide for more Sunnyside Farm & Conservancy )

I love seeing the way our favorite editors use our pieces in new and gorgeous ways in their magazines. I always learn something new about the art of living on their pages, and I am so grateful for their support of Reed Smythe from the beginning.

Be sure to find some time to savor this month's Flower Magazine and VERANDA Magazine to gather fall inspiration! Thank you Margot Shaw Steele Marcoux

It’s still dahlia season, and I loved setting a table taking a cue from Summerill & Bishop beautiful dahlia cloth, which captures the colors of the season so perfectly.

And of course, always happy to have Percy join in on the fun!

So excited to launch our exclusive capsule of Terre Mêlée from Languedoc.

Terre mêlée, which translates as “mixed earth,” is a technique developed in 18th-century France involving the blending of differently colored, oxidized clays, resulting in refined pieces of singular beauty. Originating in the town of Apt in the Luberon, it is also known as Aptware.

The combining of clays before firing creates organic, swirling patterns and represents meticulous, painstaking craftsmanship that involves hand-sculpting, sanding, and double-firing with a transparent glaze. No two pieces are alike. Over the past year, we have worked with Tanti Baci to create a collection of pieces whose shapes and glazes are exclusive to Reed Smythe. We couldn’t be more pleased.

After 14 years in our Nashville house, I’ve been getting ansty and longing for some change - not overwhelming change, but something new for the eye to land on every day. So this summer I mustered up the courage to swap out our beloved Philadelphia Harlequin wallpaper (designed circa 1807) in a custom colorway by Adelphi Paper Hangings for another of their papers, Bamboo and Drapery (circa 1811). The change is exactly what I had hoped for. It doesn’t feel drastic - we still have an entry hall filled with color and shape and depth - but there’s a freshness to the new paper - more organic, a bit brighter - that feels just right for our family after nearly 15 years in this house. My daughters (photo 1) are now 21 and 18, our sweet puppy Ellie (photo 1 & 3) has passed on and our new baby George (photo 2) just arrived a week ago. It’s fun to watch a house change and grow, just as we do, and nice to be able to see it in new ways. 📷 1&3 circa 2012 williamwaldronphoto

Scenes from a mythical two weeks in Corfu with my family, my oldest and best friends, their children, wonderful new friends, sunshine, good food and the healing waters of the Ionian Sea. With many thanks to Gallivant ltd and to the Geracaris family for their warm welcome to Villa Posillipo Corfu where the spirit of the Durrells and the beauty of the island was all around us. 🇬🇷

Pictures hardly do justice to this collection of terre mêlée cachepots made in Languedoc and made for Reed Smythe. The blue and yellow pattern is so unexpected but so pretty, and the chinoiserie monkey heads on the rounded version are so cheeky. They are great for any arrangement or plant, but I’ve also discovered they make a lovely champagne cooler. I need a little yellow in my life right now, and these are making me happy. Plus, how much do we love the way the cerulean color of the crystal match striker picks up on the blue in the exquisite glaze. Hoping you are headed into a sunshiny summer weekend.

It’s always a joy to see how our customers and friends use Reed Smythe wares. These hand-cut and fired ceramic obelisk vases in various sizes rest on tiny coquillage feet and are among my favorite of all our offerings.
