asked me to share my take with on food as inspiration for design. Pasta is deeply familiar. It’s not precious, and almost everyone has some emotional association with it; comfort, family, restaurants, travel, childhood, romance. But it can also become surprisingly elegant when you shift the context. A strand of linguine is silly as a lampshade material, obviously, but visually it’s not that far from bamboo, which a stick lampshade would normally be made with.
In Fellini’s films, scenes involving food are rarely about the food itself. The act of dining creates an atmosphere of excess and decadence, often to a somewhat dreamlike and sometimes grotesque or artificial effect.

With “Glamour alle Vongole” I wanted to channel that same feeling of excess and decadence, with a touch of the uncanny. The piece is obviously humorous, but it’s also sincere. I wanted it to feel like an object from a fantasy trattoria, or a glamorous, perhaps slightly unhinged film set.

I found the chandelier hanging in the on a sourcing trip in Paris last summer, at the flea in Saint-Ouen. Swipe to see a few other contenders I texted to Esha during my search. Her favorite was the last one, but I sent that one as a joke (it’s hanging in the Louvre.)

’s textiles are produced using techniques that have existed for centuries, yet the color combinations feel strikingly fresh, sometimes even surprising. It’s a balance we both gravitate toward: honoring tradition while allowing for a certain irreverence.
