Sometimes “I’m okay” is just the easiest answer.

You’re missing them.

You’re doing what needs to be done.

And you don’t always know how to explain that both are happening at once.

Sometimes you want to talk about your person and have someone stay in the conversation.

What do you wish you could say when someone asks how you are?

“Moving through grief” sounds like there’s an end.

But what if you could learn to move with it?

What if there could be room for missing someone and enjoying a moment?

For sadness and laughter, sometimes in the same day?

Maybe balance begins with recognizing that both can be there.

Understanding grief changes how it feels.

What does it mean to make room for grief?

Sometimes it can be as simple as being able to talk about it.

Without someone changing the subject.

Without trying to make you feel better.

Without needing to fix anything.

And it doesn’t always have to be sad.

Sometimes we just need someone willing to listen.

Maybe that’s where we start. ❤️

The death of my son overwhelmed me. I just wanted a break from it.

The retreat was called Soulful Escape.

There was yoga, a sound bath and time with a therapist.

I remember sitting with the therapist and saying,

“I’m afraid to tell you anything because I don’t want my pain to leak onto other people.”

I think about those words now because they tell me so much about where I was then.

I didn’t understand grief.

I was afraid of what I was feeling.

I thought I needed to contain it, control it or somehow get away from it.

And I couldn’t.

What I’ve learned since is that I needed to learn how to be with my feelings.

And I needed people around me who understood grief.

Being with people who get it gave me something I didn’t even know I was looking for —

support and safety to feel what I was feeling.

The grief didn’t disappear.

But I wasn’t carrying it the same way.

Understanding grief changes how it feels.
