Optional Toppings

Chocolate shavings

Chocolate chips

👨‍🍳Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, milk, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth and creamy. Slowly pour in the hot coffee or hot water and stir until the batter becomes silky and slightly thin.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the frosting, beat the butter in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder gradually, mixing well after each addition. Pour in the cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, then beat until the frosting becomes smooth, rich, and spreadable.

Place one cake layer on a cake stand or serving plate and spread a thick layer of chocolate frosting on top. Add the second cake layer and frost the top and sides evenly. Decorate with chocolate shavings, chocolate chips, or fresh strawberries for a bakery-style finish.

Slice and serve the cake to reveal the soft, moist chocolate layers and creamy frosting inside.
