I have never had the honor of someone painting a portrait of me before… which is why this moment feels so emotional and deeply reflective. As a complete surprise, Thomas — who is graduating with his Masters in Painting — chose me as one of his final projects.
To sit there and realize that someone sees you through the lens of art is something I cannot fully put into words. It makes me reflect on how lucky we are in life when we lead with love, passion, and purpose… and how somehow the universe mirrors that energy back to us in the most unexpected ways.
For inspiration, Thomas referenced Dr. Pozzi at Home by John Singer Sargent — the iconic portrait of the famed Parisian gynecologist and collector Samuel-Jean Pozzi, wrapped in a dramatic crimson dressing gown with an almost cinematic elegance. The portrait, now part of the collection at the Hammer Museum, has always fascinated me for its richness, theatricality, and emotional depth.
Ironically the photograph he chose was of me in Paris when we were on trip and I happened to be wearing a white ruffle tuxedo shirt with red pants echoing the painting he used as inspiration proving inspiration lives deep in the subconscious!
To think that a work inspired by such an iconic painting became part of Thomas’s final Masters project makes this feel even more surreal and meaningful.
This portrait feels like more than paint on canvas. It feels like a reflection of soul purpose, of the journey we are on, of where we are going, and of the quiet wishes we hold inside are always fulfilled .
A reminder that when you live authentically and create from the heart, life has a beautiful way of giving you moments you never even knew to dream of. ✨
