To my entrepreneurs whose lives are being affected greatly by this swift change. Here are some key things to reflect on during these times:
What projects have you been holding off on completing because you 'haven't had the time'?
Now that you do have extra time due to venues closing and 'quarantine' at home, how are you planning to use it? I always say time is the ONE thing in life you can never get back, so how are you planning to use it? Are you maximizing it to your benefit or wasting it?

Have you bulletproofed your business in a way that can still pull revenue even through a potential depression? What service are you offering that people still need even in moments of crisis?

Even if service is not needed in crisis, what innovative ways are you creating to help people access your business even now while in crisis?

What are you doing to help your community in times of need? Is what you are offering a service they truly need or would find helpful? Or are you just capitalizing as well on the desperation of those in need?

Resiliency comes not when things are easy or laid out in a platter. But in creating new avenues to get to the same destination.

Mentioned in my previous post, these cotton stems were placed where I put them on PURPOSE. With design, everything serves a purpose. Sure, we buy some things simply because they look pretty. But we do think about where we place them, where it would look better, and where it would serve a better purpose and flow. Would you place a fruit basket on the floor or would you rather place it on the kitchen island where people can better access it? Sometimes the purpose behind what you do is known by others who just get it, and sometimes that purpose is only known by you and that’s okay too. Even the smallest details like this picture paint a larger picture.
People that really know me say I can take the simplest thing, look at it, and find a whole new meaning behind it. Like a plant can never be just a plant, it has has life cycles like humans and gives oxygen. And it’s TRUE!
I saw this all to say, Live your life today with purpose and remember not everyone has to get it.

And the tribute to black history month continues. I have these cotton babies right next to my altar in my home. I placed them where I did on PURPOSE. Not only are they pretty to look at, but they remind me daily of my ancestors, where we came from, the countless hours they labored in the sun, the strength of my people, the burden we carry and the work and legacy we still have left to carry out.

Fun fact: I used to have a thing for Buddhas and indoor waterfalls. So whenever I get a client that requests either of the two, I go HAM! What made this project so great was that she completely trusted me, surrendered to the process and my vision, all while still telling me her style and things she wanted to incorporate. She was excited, and little did she know I was probably even more excited than her! She said she loved Buddhas, ‘drama’, and statement pieces, so a statement Buddha piece is what she got. Happy client, happy designer!

I presented different mood boards for her to choose from (swipe). My fav out of the bunch was slide 1. It was hers too. Out of option 1, 2, or 3 which one is your fav?.

In honor of black history month, let’s show these black walls some LOVE!! I remember growing up hearing ‘whatever you do, stay away from black or dark colored walls’. Well, out with that concept, and in with the new, the bold, the dark, the creative. You nailed these dark walls and your entire home’s monochromatic design.

My client wanted a Boheme zen feel, but still with a touch of glam. I seriously have so much fun when my clients mix different styles together, number 1 because it pushes my limits, and number 2 because it’s reflective of their unique personality...no one person fits in just one box. We are unique and our spaces should reflect that. If y’all could describe your personal style in 3 words or less, what would it be?.
I’ll start! On most days, Afrocentric, eclectic, zen.

Guess who got featured as a business of the week?! This gyal right here. So proud my baby made it to the list. Not an actual baby in case you were thinking, but this baby of mine that’s my business. Can’t wait to see all the ways she continues to flourish as I pour in more love, more attention, more tenderness, and more of me into her. What a great way to start off 2020! Thank you to for using your platform to showcase the work of talented creatives and interior designers like myself. We so appreciate you sister fren!
P.S. I have missed y’all. Not social media as a whole, because as addicting as it may be, it also feels draining. Wheew! Ya girl had to take a long mental break during the holiday season and then some afterwards. Winter solstice is a time of rest and rejuvenation for me. It’s during these periods when things brew, new ideas surface. We need the stillness, to reprogram and also remember why we signed up for this in the first place. We need the quiet to re-visit those goals that we set in 2019 but never accomplished and to find out all the reasons why. Sometimes we stand in our own way and block our own blessings. Be honest with yourself and ask yourself why? You see this post was really supposed to be about my business feature, but the pensive me gets the thinking and wants to peel back layers. Maybe a sign I miss writing too. It feels good to get your thoughts on paper (in this case, on my phone screen). Do more of what you love.
Hope everyone has a great and pensive week. Cheers to creating more 2020 vision!
