I’ve refrained for so long from making any public commentary on social topics, especially politics, I didn’t want to deal with the pettiness, mean-spirited comments, or inevitable responses like”just stick to flowers.” But after the tragedies in Minnesota and seeing the lack of humanity, compassion and moral decency of our government, it’s difficult to remain silent.

My parents immigrated here in the early 1950’s to escape political violence in Colombia, where ideological conflict between Conservatives and Liberals consumed the country. My dad was a public prosecutor, and some of the stories he shared with us growing up, of people critical of the government being silenced or facing retribution, feels similar to what I’m sadly seeing now. I never thought about masked militias roaming the streets terrorizing citizens could ever happen here in the US. People with hopes and dreams being swept away or killed with such force and violence - unlawful actions without impunity.

We must insist on basic human decency, and truth from government officials.

In solidarity with National Shutdown tomorrow, I will not be taking any orders for Friday delivery. I apologize for any inconvenience and thank you so much for your understanding.

I've been really enjoying the beautiful blooms and fragrance of some leftover paperwhite bulbs from the holidays. Consider forcing bulbs or bringing in fresh flowers to brighten up your space during the winter months. Local deliveries are available Wednesday through Saturday.
