Inspired by the Japanese concept of Shibusa—an aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty—Smilow Glass, designed by Judy Smilow, is meant to be minimal and yet stand out at the same time.⁠⠀

The Dots + Dashes Plate Set was first shown in MoMA’s gift shop, where Judy Smilow was working as a designer in the Graphics Dept. The plate set is in the permanent collection of the Yale University Art Gallery’s, the Brooklyn Museum of Art’s, and the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum.⁠⠀
