Responding to an artist’s need for space to showcase work, the Artist Studios project envisions a building that performs in two ways—as a place for the production of art and as a space for the exhibition of art.

The design uses four separate spaces that have the capability to function as spatially independent artist studios, as well as interconnected exhibition spaces that create a continuous sequence of staggered spaces from cellar to roof terrace.

Conceived as two bent tubular volumes embedded into the existing slope of the site, Casa Trasanquelos attempts to forge a direct relationship with its surrounding landscape. The two tubes shift and bend to create exterior spaces, maximize the views and optimize orientation.

The treatment of the facades reinforces the nature of the relationship of the project with its surroundings.

The southeast elevation is conceived as a light, transparent facade open to views downhill with operable wooden screens that provide shade, privacy and security when closed.

Delimiting the site, the house turns its back to the street with a massive, deep, corrugated facade that filters the views of the surrounding trees while providing privacy from the street.
