My cabin kitchen as pictured in The Layered Home, out this month by 📸

When I bought my cabin in 2020, there was so much to do, gutting the kitchen wasn’t an option. Instead, I added what layers I could to lighten up the space! Lots of paint, a layer of linoleum flooring (over existing linoleum eek), removing some cabinet doors, adding lighting via an attic above - got me to a place where I could be happy in the kitchen while tackling other projects.

Intentionally bold and edited color direction create a grounding, enveloping guest room on the 30th floor of a downtown Nashville condo. Walls in a deep dusty red tone (here Red River Clay) are rendered soothing when paired with a cut velvet headboard in the same shade.

Once such space pictured here in our Catskills Lakehouse project, this dining area bridges the kitchen and living rooms in an open plan, designed for a full house and family weekends.

Congrats to my friend on the release of his first book The Layered Home! And I am so delighted to be included! Beautiful photos by 👏🏻👏🏻

Benjamin is a champion for the unique, off beat, curious, crafted and artful. This book compiles so many pleasing images of very personal, textured homes - nothing showroom about any of it! It’s refreshing to see real living spaces filled with appealing evidence of humanity, craft and creative people.

Attending this epic fair last week had me overwhelmed, awed and inspired - mostly I’m still in awe of the hustle antique dealers put into their trade! Travel, logistics, containers, truckers, customs brokers - all in pursuit of special, beautiful things that can be sold again at a good price - they are the ultimate gamblers and I’m feeling so much respect. 🍀
