Long before I was designing homes, I was training as a ballet dancer.

Years of ballet taught me to notice the smallest details. The line of a foot. The position of a hand. The relationship between two bodies moving through space.

You spend enough years doing that, and eventually your eye becomes trained to seek harmony.

Today, that same instinct shows up in my design work.

The scale of a room.
The balance of colors.
The relationship between furniture, architecture, and lighting.

Different medium. Same pursuit.

Creating spaces where every element feels like it belongs.

What’s one design detail you always notice first?

One of the biggest misconceptions about working with an interior designer is the fear of losing your voice in the process.

That somehow, your home will stop feeling like yours.

At Francis Interiors, we believe the opposite.

Our role is not to arrive with a fixed vision and ask you to adapt to it.

Our role is to listen deeply, understand how you want to experience your home, and translate that into a space that feels elevated, intentional, and unmistakably personal.

The most successful projects are not about imposing taste.

They are collaborations.

Your taste.
Your story.
Your home, elevated.

Save this if you have ever wondered what working with a designer is actually like.

Color. Contrast. Movement. Self expression.

These principles have always shaped our work.

Pride, in many ways, celebrates the same idea: the freedom to express ourselves more fully, more truthfully, and with greater courage.

We believe homes should do the same.

Not simply impress.
Not simply follow trends.

But reflect the complexity, individuality, and beauty of the humans living inside them.

Happy Pride Month.

Decorator. Designer. Maruska. Cleaning lady.
Call me whatever you like.

The truth is, titles matter a lot less than the outcome.

Real interior design goes beyond what happens on the surface. Before the fabrics, before the styling, before the “oh my God, the place is fabulous” moment, we first solve the home.

The flow.
The lighting.
The awkward developer layout.
The spaces that are not quite working yet.

Then we dress it.

And yes, I happen to enjoy that part very much too.

Save this for the next time someone tells you interior design is just picking pretty things.

Memorial Day has always felt like more than the beginning of summer.

It’s a reminder of gathering. Of slowing down. Of appreciating the people we share our homes and lives with.

As designers, we often think about how a home looks.
But holidays like this remind us how deeply a home is also tied to memory.

The dinners that stretch late into the evening.
Friends arriving through the front door.
Children running through hallways.
Quiet mornings before everyone wakes up.

The most meaningful homes are not only beautiful.
They become the backdrop to a life fully lived.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

We are relationship-focused.

At Francis Interiors, excellence is never created alone.

Every project is shaped through the relationships we build with our clients, collaborators, artisans, trades, and the many people who help bring a vision to life.

We believe the quality of a home is deeply connected to the quality of the collaboration behind it.

When people are treated with respect, trust, professionalism, and genuine care, the work reflects it.
The process feels better.
The ex*****on becomes stronger.
And the end result carries that energy forward into the home itself.

That is how thoughtful, elevated, and deeply intentional interiors are created.

Francis Interiors – Core Value: Relationship Focused

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that it begins with colors and fabrics.

It doesn’t.

Before we ever begin “dressing” a space, we first have to understand and solve it.

How does the home flow?
Where does natural light enter?
Are there architectural challenges?
Does the furniture layout actually support the way people live?
Are there moments in the home that feel unresolved or disconnected?

Only after those questions are answered does the design begin revealing what it actually needs, the right scale, the right shapes, the right movement within the room.

And once that foundation exists, layering color and materials becomes intuitive.

Almost like a coloring book.
First the drawing. Then the color.

Or as we often say in our studio:

First address. Then dress.

Lighting should never be treated as an afterthought.

It is one of the most important layers in how a home feels, functions, and emotionally responds to the people living inside it.

A few principles we always follow in our studio:

• Start with how the home will actually be experienced, the furniture layout, traffic flow, and daily rituals.

• Avoid relying exclusively on overhead lighting. The harshest light in a home almost always comes from the ceiling.

• Layer lighting from multiple sources, wall sconces, floor lamps, concealed millwork lighting, decorative fixtures, and selective architectural lighting.

• Use recessed lighting carefully and intentionally. Supporting light should feel grouped and purposeful, not scattered across a ceiling.

• Think about mood, not just brightness. Good lighting should shape atmosphere the same way stage lighting shapes a performance.

As someone with a background in theater and performance, I’ve always understood that lighting has the power to completely transform how a space is experienced.

And ultimately, our homes become the stage for our daily lives.

Share this with someone planning a renovation. Lighting decisions matter more than most people realize.
