The MMD Story

Michael McHale Designs was established in 2007 by an ex-entertainment lawyer who was looking for a more creative way to make a living, but wasn’t sure how. One day, he went to a design store to find a light fixture for his apartment, and just hated what was on offer. He thought he could make something himself.

The piece he made consisted of industrial pipes and fittings drenched in the finest of crystal. The mix of rough and smooth, masculine and feminine, formal and informal was just right. And getting the mix right evoked an emotive response. He discovered a formula. McHale’s designs earned him immediate kudos, including a feature in The New York Times. Since that time, the company has been concerned with what hasn’t yet been done in modern decorative lighting, and what it can contribute. Recently it has introduced a line of modular lighting whose look can change easily without having to call an electrician, and lighting which incorporates smart home technology.
