SCALA DEI TURCHI 🤍
This will also be one of the itineraries soon available on our website!
Did you know that Scala dei Turchi is one of the most iconic natural landmarks in all of Sicily?
This stunning white cliff is made of marl, a unique white sedimentary rock shaped over thousands of years by wind and sea erosion into its famous staircase-like form.
🤔 WHY IS IT CALLED "SCALA DEI TURCHI"?
The name means "Stair of the Turks." During the 16th century, Saracen pirates, commonly referred to as "Turks" by locals, used this sheltered stretch of coast as a landing point before raiding nearby villages. The natural rock formation looked like a giant staircase, giving rise to its famous name.
