Today I am sharing another reward from my Shibori in Oaxaca 2027 fundraising campaign.
This is a chance to own some rare indigo and support indigenous artisans.
The Indigofera Suffruticosa is from Santiago Niltepec, Oaxaca, in Mexico’s Isthmus region. This is one of the last villages in Latin America producing natural Añil (indigo).
Here, indigo has been cultivated and processed in the same manner for centuries. The village’s name, “Niltepec”, translates to “Hill of Indigo”. There is a limited amount of indigo produced each year.
The indigo is formed into rock-hard balls. I am happy to grind it into a powder; just let me know!
