I get asked about this all the time! There’s actually an outlet on top of the mantel, hidden behind the ginger jar.
When we built our home, we tried to think ahead about where we would want lighting. We added outlets above the mantel for seasonal displays and lamps, and even placed outlets under our sofa so we could have lamps on both sides without cords running across the room.
If you’re building or renovating, think intentionally about how you’ll live in the space. Consider where a Christmas tree might go, where you’ll want accent lighting, or where lamps will make a room feel warm and inviting. These little details may seem small during construction, but they’re the things you’ll appreciate every day once you’re living there.
