Could you use the new Hemnes cabinet without installing the doors?
Has anyone bought the new IKEA Hemnes glass-door cabinet that could give me some advice, please? I want to install two next to each other, one without the doors on. If you didn't install the doors, would it look stupid? For example, are there big holes for the hinges?

I know you can get one that is shelves the whole way down but I don't want that!

Just finished my new Pax closet!!! Thank you to this group who gave me some great advice on how to set it all up a few months ago! I used 11 various sizes of the Pax wardrobes (literally every size and depth they make šŸ˜†), a million shelves, and 12 drawers all from Ikea. The upper cabinets I made from plywood, added trim to everything for a built in look, and purchased wood closet rods and fancy k***s and drawer pulls from a local home improvement store (still waiting on a few to arrive as you can see!). Then painted it all in Sherwin Williams Aesthetic White. All storage totes and decor is from Amazon. Took me about a month but I’m in love!!

*in progress, I still need to install the doors and hang it up on the wall. My question is, for those of you who have done this type of ivar cabinet project, what have you used for a top? (If you added a top to it.)
Do they have ones that fit these cabinets already from IKEA? Do you have to get them custom cut? Just MDF or like a countertop laminate material.?

"High end" remodel company said this is the correct way to install cabinet. I call BS.
Ok....need advice from any remodeling, cabinets, construction peeps.

Recently our kitchen flooded. Previously we could access the entirety of the inside of this corner. Now we can't. I took measurements and we are losing about 50% of space now. Both the cabinet people and the project manager said this is the correct way to install cabinets.

I call BS. There's even provisions for another drawer that can never be used because it's behind the side of the other cabinet. Also another cabinet door opening is hidden. And sh*t is going to fall in the gap where the door/drawer is supposed to be. Once it falls, it will be hard to reach.

This looks lazy....it looks like short cut work.

I'm looking for professional opinions.

Install/cabinet quality?
New install, they still have another day so it isn’t finished yet.

For these cracks are these okay to assume they are going to repair them or should I ask for replacement? (Pictures 1, 2, and 5)

Lots of hair line ā€œcracksā€ where the wood seams are, I get it is natural expansion, but is it acceptable to have so much of it on a new install?

Office Built-in using Billy/Havsta combo
Finally completed our Billy/Havsta Bookcase built-in for our office.

We used a total of: 4 - Havsta base cabinets 3 - Full Billy bookcases (31.5" wide) 4 - Slim Billy bookcases (15.75" wide) 4 - Billy bookcase extenders

We had to off-set the end bookcases since we could only fit 2 extenders. We also used a thin plywood sheet to replace the backing of the wider Billy bookcases for stability. We added a 3/4" hardwood countertop for a more finished look.

Also added crown molding and trim for built-in look.

Primed with Zinsser Bin Primer. Paint was SW Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel with a semi-gloss finish in Bunglehouse Blue.

Havsta & Billy Built-In
Finally got this project over the finish line and so happy how it turned out.

I had two Billy bookcases from around 2006 that have survived several moves. I cut them down in size and made a 1/4 inch plywood back for them. I went this route because I got this beautiful walnut butcher block from Floor & Decor and wanted as much of it seen as possible.

Four Havsta bases make up the base. I have a piece of trim between each to hide the gap. I also have additional baseboard molding wrapping the base to add to the built-in look. I swapped the original k***s for a walnut mushroom shaped pull.

I included trim everywhere it seemed reasonable, including beefing up the vertical sides of the Billy, and I made frames for either side to hide the external screws that were part of this model. I filled all other shelve holes, and the cardboard slot with spackle to make it look seamless.

I used shiplap for the middle and then trimmed out the top.

Happy to answer any questions!
