A couple of my clients and friends kept asking the same question at the end of every project: okay, how do I actually keep it this way? What do you use?

So I put the whole list together. Every product I personally use and keep coming back to, including a few that check both boxes I care most about: genuinely effective and environmentally friendly. Those two together are harder to find than they should be.

The new post is up on the blog. If you have something you love that belongs on this list, drop it in the comments. I genuinely want to know.

Tested, eco-friendly tools I actually use at home. Real picks that keep your space looking good without a lot of effort.

AI will never walk down the hallway at 2 AM.

I keep seeing ads for AI design apps turning narrow walkways into beautiful, plant-filled "moments." They look amazing at first sight. But in real life? That is a bruised shin, a stubbed toe, or even worse, a bang on the head waiting to happen.

There is a huge difference between generating a pretty picture and designing a space that actually works for how you live. While an app can sometimes generate a beautiful room in seconds, it cannot see that the warm white paint it suggested might look pinkish in your specific room because of the lighting in that room. A functional designer will work with you and your space to make sure that it looks good, while still making sure it works for you and your family in every way in real life.

Want to know the real difference between a human designer and an AI app? Read the full breakdown in my new blog post here:

AI generates beautiful rooms, but it cannot feel your space. Discover why true functional design requires a human touch, not an algorithm.

In New York, we are conditioned to treat our current apartments like waiting rooms for a life that hasn’t started yet. We tell ourselves that once we get the extra floor or the “real” entryway, then we will have the home we deserve.

I don’t believe in that kind of compromise.
Whether you are in a West Village studio or a Brooklyn brownstone, your home should be a haven right now. A home that works isn’t about the square footage; it is about how that space holds you, supports you, and lets you exhale at the end of the day.

You just have to decide you are done waiting.

You've probably seen hall trees marketed as the all-in-one entryway solution. Hooks for coats, cubbies for shoes, maybe a bench. Looks great in the store and online.

Not so much in reality: open cubbies stuffed with sneakers, hooks weighed down with jackets, and everything else piled on top. You're lucky if the pretty picture lasts for 48 hours after installation before it explodes into chaos.

If you have the space for real storage, the goal should be a stow-away zone, not a drop zone. Closed cabinets. Hidden shoes. A place for bags that isn't "the floor."

I wrote a full post breaking down what actually works: storage combinations, freestanding armoires, my go-to IKEA Pax configuration (I'm sharing the exact code), and how to visually define your entry zone even in an open floor plan.

Hall trees look great for 48 hours. Here's how to design entryway storage that actually fits your family's real volume.

Does your entryway welcome you home or stress you out?

Your entryway is where you take your first breath when you walk through the door. It sets the tone for everything that follows.

If you are tripping over shoes or staring at a cluttered hall tree, that chaos finds its way into the rest of your home. It affects how you feel the moment you walk inside.

I just published a guide on how to master the small space entry without sacrificing style.

I am breaking down the Hall Tree trap, the best slim cabinets for narrow hallways, and the framed hook hack that turns clutter into a gallery wall.

Design is more than just paint colors, furniture and hardware. It is about how the space functions.

We often think organization is simply about storage, but it is actually the foundation of great design.

Visual noise makes your home feel chaotic and the furthest thing from the sanctuary it should be.

I am starting a new blog series on how to easily maintain the different spaces in your home so they look and feel wonderful, no matter how small. Check out the first post here: https://www.loulouniche.com/post/kitchen-organization-design-art-tools
