Raised in New York City and Barcelona, Gala Magriñá is a multidisciplinary, multicultural force to be reckoned with. While her interest in design and interiors can be traced all the way back to her Hawaiian themed childhood bedroom, her career was ultimately shaped by her education as an NYU film student, her role as one of Diesel USA’s first employees, and as the founder of M Crown Productions, a

n award-winning production design agency that focused on events, pop-ups, exhibition and retail displays. Building on this success, in 2017, Gala launched Gala Magriñá Design, a commercial interior design agency based in New York City with worldwide production and installation capabilities. Eventually, an education in holistic design and mindful practices solidified the move from events and temporary spaces to interior design and refined the focus of the agency.

AI can most definitely render an incredible space, but I’m convinced it can’t create one with soul.

Because when you look closer, something is missing. There’s no soul. No history. No HUMANITY.

As humans, we aren’t perfect and the spaces that make us feel the safest, happiest, and most grounded aren’t perfect either. True luxury isn’t neccessarily flawless symmetry, it’s the nuance: the way sunlight hits a textured plaster wall, a comfortable arm chair perfectly positioned by the window to invite a daily ritual of reflection, the slouch of a well-loved linen sofa and the stories behind the art on your walls.

AI can give you a picture perfect image. But it takes a human touch to design a home that truly feels like home and that holds you.

NEW WORK__ 📸’s of one of my favorite rooms from our latest upper east side project- the primary bedroom where we carved out a dedicated WFH nook, aligning custom stone legs with the building’s architecture to create an intentional space to sit back and “THINK BIG.”

Followed be a serene, spa-like bathroom complete with a double shower, custom floating vanity and a private enclosed toilet.

We’ve been lied to about what interior design actually is.

We’ve been taught to treat it like a luxury hobby. A superficial status symbol reserved for matching throw pillows, chasing fleeting trends, and making spaces look “pretty.”

But the truth? Your environment is not just a backdrop for your life, it’s actively interacting with your biology every single second.

When modern life has us constantly trapped in fight-or-flight mode, our homes can’t just be about aesthetics anymore. They have to do more. I’m talking about nervous system regulation, mental health, and physical well-being.

If your home isn’t actively helping you heal from the chaos of the outside world, it’s adding to it. So it’s time we start treating interior design as medicine. Because it is 🙏🏼.

FULL STOP. Let’s talk about the true responsibility of interior design…

We live in a chaotic world. Because of that, the future of interior design has to go beyond aesthetics and basic functionality. We need to design spaces that FEEL deeply supportive. If a space isn’t nurturing the mind, body, soul, it’s not fulfilling its purpose.

Our spaces are just as critical to our overall health and wellbeing as sleep, diet, and exercise. And yet we rarely treat them that way.

NEW WORK___ Every design decision shapes how we feel, think, and interact within a space. Here’s a look at our latest Upper East Side remodel and the intention behind a few of those choices for the kitchen:

CALM + GROUNDING
We chose natural materials that connect our client back to Nature and designed a custom kitchen that conceals appliances and everyday visual clutter. Both have been shown to help reduce stress, improve concentration, and create greater feelings of comfort and restoration.

TOGETHERNESS
We opened the kitchen to the dining and living areas so our clients can cook while keeping an eye on the kids as they do homework, play, or simply move through their day. They also love to entertain casually, and an open layout makes gathering feel effortless, allowing everyone to stay connected.

SURPRISE + DELIGHT
One of the foyer closets became a hidden little bar area. We brought in a curved archway to soften the architecture and added a touch of blue to create a visual connection to the adjacent dining and living spaces. It also gives guests the freedom to pour themselves a drink and settle in.

TRANSFORMATION
The original galley kitchen was filled with soffits and varying ceiling heights that made the space feel fragmented. Opening the kitchen required us to work around an existing gas line where a dividing wall once stood. Rather than seeing it as a constraint, we wrapped it in fluted travertine, transforming it into an architectural feature that helps frame the kitchen.

EXPANSIVE VIEW
We transformed a previously underutilized corner into a floating work-from-home desk with what I like to call an “expansive view of the world.” It’s the perfect spot for ideating, dreaming, and big-picture thinking. Sitting there, looking out the window, feels a bit like taking a deep breath. As if the space itself is quietly whispering, “Yes, you can.”

We believe that great interior design isn’t just about how a space looks. It’s about how it supports the life unfolding within it.

NEW WORK____ a moody urban sanctuary on one side, indoor monkey bars on the other. Welcome to our latest Manhattan project ✨

This renovation project truly tested the concept of a holistic approach to design as we balanced designing rooms that were grounding and restorative with room’s that needed to support the energy levels of city kids in an apartment.

Our starting place was a super cozy, moody, blue family room with a massive sofa that seats the whole family and a textured, organic, airy modern living room that allows the East River views to be the real star of the room (never going to try and compete with Nature!)

But head a little further down the hall… and you’ll find a custom climbing wall in the girls’ room and monkey bars in the boys room ⚡️

I loved this project because it proves that luxury design is truly about being intentional about how you want to live and how you want your home to feel above all else.
