Slow Cooker General Tso’s Chicken:
Ingredients:
1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces 🍗
¼ cup cornstarch 🌽
1 tablespoon vegetable oil 🛢️
3 cloves garlic, minced 🧄
1 teaspoon ginger, minced 🫚
½ cup soy sauce 🍶
½ cup hoisin sauce 🥢
¼ cup rice vinegar 🍚
¼ cup brown sugar 🍬
1 tablespoon sriracha (optional for heat) 🌶️
1 tablespoon sesame oil 🌾
1 ½ cups broccoli florets 🥦
2 green onions, chopped 🧅
Sesame seeds for garnish 🌱
Cooked white rice for serving 🍚
Instructions:
Prepare the Chicken: Toss the chicken pieces in the cornstarch until fully coated. Shake off any excess cornstarch.
Brown the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are golden brown on all sides. This step is optional but helps to lock in the flavor and gives the chicken a nice texture.
Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the garlic, ginger, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sriracha (if using), and sesame oil until well combined.
Slow Cook: Transfer the browned chicken to your slow cooker. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken, making sure it is well coated. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or until the chicken is tender.
Add the Broccoli: About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the broccoli florets. Let it cook until the broccoli is tender.
Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve over cooked white rice.
