I went to see When Shadows Forget Their Master by Alic Brock (b.1992) at PLATO in New York. I noticed the feeling more than the images themselves.

When I look at these paintings, even though nothing is fully revealed you see women feeling in control without needing to prove anything.

It made me remember that in both people and interiors, what you choose not to show is often what creates the strongest impact.

As soon as I walked into the exhibition, I saw a forest in every abstract composition - my happy place - long before I even knew the title of the exhibition: « Out of the Woods ».

The artist wanted the forest to show how we get tangled up in confusion, but in getting lost there, we can discover a new way forward.
