Classic Buttery Sugar Cookie Cutouts
**Ingredients:**
- 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
**Directions:**
1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
2. Gradually add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
3. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Wrap each in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
4. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
6. Place cookies 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheets.
7. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating or serving.
