⭐ CRISPY HASH BROWNS
Here’s a crispy, diner-style hash browns recipe that always comes out golden and crunchy on the outside, tender inside!
Ingredients
• 2 large russet potatoes (best for crispiness)
• 2 tbsp butter
• 2 tbsp oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
• Salt & pepper, to taste
• Optional:
o 1–2 tbsp finely chopped onion
o A pinch of paprika or garlic powder
Instructions
1. Prepare the potatoes
1. Peel the potatoes (optional but recommended).
2. Shred using a box grater or food processor.
2. Remove moisture (crucial for crispiness!)
• Place the shredded potatoes in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
• Squeeze hard until very dry.
• (Optional) Soak the shredded potatoes in cold water 5–10 minutes first to remove excess starch, then drain and squeeze dry again — extra crispy!
3. Season
In a bowl, toss dried potatoes with:
• Salt
• Pepper
• Optional onion or spices
4. Pan-fry
1. Heat 1 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp oil in a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
2. Add the potatoes, spreading them into an even layer.
3. Do not stir. Press down lightly with a spatula.
4. Cook 5–7 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy.
5. Flip
• Add remaining 1 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp oil to the pan.
• Flip in sections (or flip the whole thing if you're confident).
• Cook another 5–7 minutes until crisp and deeply golden.
6. Serve
Cut into wedges or break apart with a spatula.
Serve hot with eggs, bacon, or ketchup.
⭐ Extra Tips for Ultra-Crispy Hash Browns
• Cast-iron = crispiest.
• Butter adds flavor, oil prevents burning — the combo is best.
• Don’t overcrowd the pan; make two batches if needed.
• For patties, form the shredded potatoes into small rounds before frying.
