FJ Hakimian Gallery

FJ Hakimian Gallery Specializing in handcrafted custom, vintage, and antique carpets and wall hangings by centuries of artisans from around the world. Mr.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, F.J. Hakimian Gallery has the most prestigious selection of antique, vintage, and custom carpets and wall hangings which date from the 18th to the 21st centuries. In business for over 35 years, the Hakimian name has become a hallmark of quality and style. Beginning his career with a focus on Oriental carpets, Mr. Hakimian’s collection encompasses some of the fine

st works made primarily for a European market. With soft palettes and bold design elements, his Ziegler Sultanabads are unparalleled, and his fine Tabriz and Agra carpets are of the utmost pedigree, with provenances as rich as the Doris Duke collection. Hakimian’s eye for unique design has also led him to assemble the largest North-American collection of 20th Century Scandinavian carpets and wall hangings, designed by the most well-recognized names in the industry. From Märta Måås-Fjetterström and Barbro Nilsson, to Ingrid Dessau, to Sigvard Bernadotte, to Vibeke Klint, his collection includes some of the biggest and most distinct pieces ever woven. Other works in the gallery include Vintage Kilim Compositions, Custom Carpets, and Hand-Woven Fabrics which are all highly customizable and made-to-measure. Carefully sourced from weaving workshops and artisans he has discovered around the world, F.J. Hakimian offers only hand-made pieces, and strives to present the highest quality to suit the finest of today’s interiors. Long recognized as the quintessential source for high-end carpets, over the years F.J. Hakimian, Inc.’s loyal patrons have included Jacques Grange, Alberto Pinto, Peter Marino, Albert Hadley, Bunny Williams, Ike Kligerman Barkley, Cullman & Kravis, Yves Taralon, CS Decoration, and Stephen Sills, to name just a few. In Spring 2014, a new FJ Hakimian Gellery space, designed by John Ike of Ike, Klingerman Barkley will debut. FJ Hakimian carpets have been featured editorially in leading shelter publications including Architectural Digest, Veranda and ELLE Decor.

We are thrilled to share that our British Axminster carpet (ca. 1765) has been acquired by

Hiding in plain sight for decades, this rare early Axminster — described by The Met’s curator as having “the most balanced and most imaginative design of all known early Axminsters” — will soon go on view in the Kirtlington Park Dining Room.

With its stunning chocolate background medallion, peacock feather motifs, and intricate Greek key border, this carpet is a testament to the extraordinary craftsmanship of 18th-century English weavers.

We are so proud that this piece of Axminster history has found its forever home at one of the world’s greatest museums. 🏛️

Worn to Woven 🇿🇦

Crafted from recycled denim using the Japanese sakiori weaving technique, this piece roots global tradition within an African context. Its visual rhythm references historic strip-weave textiles—such as Ewe and Ashanti kente—while locally spun mohair and hand-stitched, locally dyed wool add warmth and structural depth.

The result is a work that resists disposable production and affirms deliberate making. Every fibre and process is chosen with intention—honouring heritage, sustaining craft, and transforming the discarded into something worthy of being kept and passed on.
