Today’s featured painting support is the Mechanical Stretcher! Simon’s take on James Lebron’s 1950s invention provides exceptional stretching capability that will keep an artwork in proper orientation indefinitely. Tite- Joint fasteners and guiding pins stabilize the various joints. Once proper tension is established, wood shims maximize tension, and tightened hardware further stabilizes the joints. These stretchers come in sugar pine, basswood, aluminum and custom hybridizations! Additionally, the Mechanical Stretcher sports a continuous bevel, or L-shaped profiles. Old Holland is the best of course. Compare the density of pigment you get with much cheaper brands and you see why it is worth paying more.
Holbein, however, has the best red- Cobalt red. Holbein I would place second in quality to Old Holland.

HFLS Small Business Loan Story:

Hi, my name is Amy, and together with my partner John, we own and operate Chelsea Restoration Associates. Over the past sixteen years we have treated as many as 10,000 paintings from Old Master to Minimalism.

Before the became severe, we ordered two custom-built drying racks to improve our productivity. While this may appear to be a minor purchase, these racks would prove to be incredibly important to the efficiency and quality of our work. When the coronavirus pandemic forced us to temporarily close down, we lost the revenue that would have been used to front the cost of this expensive equipment.

We didn’t want to rack up high-interest credit or debt, and so we applied for the Hebrew Free Loan Society and The Change Reaction Small Business Relief Fund Loan.

Because of this financial support, we were not only able to pay for our drying racks, but were able to help support other small businesses who relied upon our patronage as well (River's Edge Woodworks Simon Liu Inc. - Fine Art Supports & Materials).

This loan from has reminded us that helping one, often helps others. Thank you HFLS and The Change Reaction!
