The “Sunday Supper” Classic Meatloaf with Brown Gravy
Some dinners never go out of style… and a homemade meatloaf covered in rich brown gravy is one of those comforting classics everyone remembers.
Tender seasoned beef baked until juicy, then topped with warm savory gravy that makes every bite even better.
It’s hearty, filling, and perfect with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
Ingredients (4–6 servings)
For the meatloaf
• 2 lbs ground beef
• 1 cup breadcrumbs
• 1 egg
• ½ onion (finely chopped)
• 2 cloves garlic (minced)
• ½ cup milk
• 2 tbsp ketchup
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• Salt & black pepper
For the brown gravy
• 2 tbsp butter
• 2 tbsp flour
• 2 cups beef broth
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• Black pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until just combined.
Shape mixture into a loaf and place into a baking dish or loaf pan.
Bake for 50–60 minutes until cooked through and browned on top.
For the gravy, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
Simmer until thick and rich.
Slice meatloaf and spoon warm gravy generously over the top.
Warm, hearty, and packed with homemade comfort.
Tip: Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to keep it juicy and easier to serve.
