Fachralo prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus.

Age: circa 1870

Size: 6′.1″x4′.1″ (185×124 cm)

This large and graphically fantastic tribal rug shows two individuals along with stars and palmettes,all supporting the strikingly abrashed floating green niche panel.At the center of the field is a layered ivory and red cartouche medallion.There is a zig zag band surrounding the niche.The ivory main border hosts triangles edged with double stepped leaves.The flanking blue minor borders both employ colorful diamonds.There are four barber pole lines in the border system.The red selvedges are original and the pile is of high quality.All the colors are from natural sources.At each end is a red kilim finish.The top end has a warp macrame band.The piece is in good pile and condition.

Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1324=1906

Size: 5′.7″x4′.6″ (170×137 cm)

This square ivory ground prayer rug hosts a navy hexagonal lattice pattern whose reserves display variations of upright stylized flowers in various colors.The ivory spandrels show larger inverted flowers and secondary knot rosettes,accented with an attractive unusual aubergine color.Immediately filling the niche is a large,layered pentagonal motif.The niche arch is decorated with colorful stripes and chevrons.The piece is dated twice 1324.There are pendants,diamonds,triangles,rosettes scattered about.The red main border shows a characteristic Shirvan barred S pattern and is flanked by dark blue ground minor borders with stars and 7’s.In addition there is a blue and aubergine keyhole reciprocal band surrounding the field and there are four barber pole narrow lines in the border system.One barber pole changes color on three sides.At each end is a beige flatweave with intact warp loops at the bottom end.All the colors are from natural sources.The weave is fine and the condition is good with minor black repiling along the sides.

Fachralo prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

This classic southwest Caucasian prayer rug shows an abrashed red field with polychrome bugs supporting a dark blue shouldered sub field with a red and ivory layered cartouche enclosing a central hooked square.The ivory main border additionally displays stepped triangles in red,green,blue,yellow and pairs of stepped red leaves.The blue minor borders host tiny crosses.Around the sub field is a green frame with a zig zag pattern.There are four red and yellow and red and ivory narrow barber pole lines in the border system.Attractive abrash is displayed both at the top of the field and in the outer upper border.The selvedges are bande in pile colors.All the colors are from natural sources.,The piece is in good condition.

Khamseh bird rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: dated 1313=1895

Size: 4′.7″x3′.5″ (140×104 cm)

This extremely finely woven high quality tribal piece shows a navy field uniformly decorated with characteristic Khamseh chickens.In addition there are other smaller birds and a variety of upright flowers along with lesser stylized rosettes.At the top corners of the field are the numbers 13;introducing a date of 1313 =1895.The attractive main border shows connected blue elements along with tiny boxes.The flanking golden minor borders host bars and tiny flowers.There are four navy and ivory dotted narrow lines in the border system.The red and green selvedges are original and intact.At each end is a pile panel in red and green.The wool is extremely lustrous and the weave is extremely tight.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.

Kuba rug from Kuba district, eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1273: 1856 Christian date

Size: 4′.0″x2′.7″ (122×79 cm)

This east Caucasian scatter shows a navy field with a pattern of offset columns of house shaped arrowheads.Detail colors include:shades of red,shades of blue,green,yellow,brown,ivory and fuchsine.The abrashed red main border employs separated floating leaves.The inner ivory minor border presents a chain of hexagons enclosing diamonds in various colors.The outermost minor border hosts reversing carnations on a dark blue ground.The rug bears a date of 1273.There are five narrow barber pole lines in red and ivory and black and yellow in the border system.The blue selvedges are intact.The weave is tight and compact.The colors are harmonious and attractive.The piece is in good condition.
